Jury Duty - Again

Tell me this - How do you get picked for jury duty? Isn't it supposed to be a random thing? How do you get picked four times in four months? I haven't had to actually go in yet, but that shouldn't make a difference. The first time was a few weeks before Amelia was born - I got a letter saying it was cancelled, or whatever happens. The second one was a couple weeks later - I was supposed to go in on my due date. Not going to happen! I called and told them very politely that I was pregnant and that was my due date. The woman that answered just said "yeah?" Like she didn't know why I was calling. I told her - "well if I'm in labor, I'm not going to remember to call the court house to tell you I won't be making it to jury duty." Duh! She had to transfer me a few times to different ladies - at the end of all that, they were very rude to me and basically told me they didn't know if I was really pregnant or not, but I was taken off. Then just three weeks ago - I got the letter again- It got cancelled. Then I got another one and I'm scheduled to go in on Monday. It doesn't seem right to me to keep getting my name drawn four times in four months. Hmm!?!?
However - let me throw this out - I'm taking Amelia with me. She's a nursing baby and what are they going to tell me? Hopefully I get sent home. =) Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Ah, I got the dreaded survey for duty the other week. It said if it causes an excessive problem to list why and they would respond as to whether or not you could be exempt. I haven't heard back yet but listed nursing, homeschooling and a traveling husband as reasons I couldn't go. I hope they accept it--though I actually think it would be pretty cool to sit in on a trial, it just isn't really feasible right now. 4 times so quickly seems a little excessive!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. And super is super cute (not to mention the little one)!
Happy Thanksgiving

Hey Andrea! I have some GOOD unexpected news for you!! Remember that Name Your Tune Contest that you entered on my blog a while back? Well, one of the winners I picked didn't want the CD after all, so YOU are the new winner!! So, if you could email me ASAP the name that you want in the songs (of your son or whoever) and also what you want the label to say on the CD (like Love from Mommy and Daddy, or something like that) that would be awesome!! My email is andraya3[at]yahoo[dot]com! You'll probably still get it in time for Christmas too! :) Congrats!!

Hey - just returning your visit to my blog and am already enjoying reading your stuff! I got called in for jury duty a few months ago. One of the exemptions is guardian of children under the age of 10 with no one else to keep the children. So I checked that box and sent it off in the mail. I kept having a bad feeling that something was going to go wrong and everyone kept telling me not to worry. About 2 days before I was supposed to be there, I got the little form that I had sent in back in the mail...torn in two! I had to work the day I was called and couldn't make arrangements to have someone else pick up the kids so my dad actually took the torn summons down to the courthouse but...they were gone for lunch. A security guard called the woman in charge and had her talk to my dad. He explained and she said that everything was taken care of but I'm still scared to death that I'm going to get pulled over one of these days and arrested or something! Oh well! Good luck! I'm sure they'll send you straight home when you show up with a nursing baby!

I always used to love sitting in court, listening to the crazies give their testimonies (once, when I had to go to traffic court, there were two old ladies fighting over a bush between their yards--they had been spraying each other down with a garnen hose and both were pressing charges...After that, two men had been fighting over a crack rock and were taking turns hitting each other with a baseball bat!! The cops walked in and they wound up in court with everyone except the judge cracking up LOL!) Now that I have a kid, though, no way do I want to be called in! I don't have time for all of that drama! Stand your ground and get out of it if you can. I bet they're just keeping you at the top of the list since you got out of it--UGH! How annoying!

Wow, I hope that you can get out of that. I am pretty sure you can, I have been released from jury duty twice for being a breastfeeding mom.
