Glad to be staying home today

Once again I was summoned for jury duty, yes this is the fifth time in eight months. How is this possible, isn't it supposed to be a random drawing or something? I think someone has it out for me! Thank goodness there was no trial, or at least that's what it said on the recording that told me I didn't have to go. I'm so very thankful. I was feeling very panicky yesterday having the thought of leaving Amelia. She doesn't use a bottle, I don't even pump, she doesn't eat regular food and she isn't old enough for her mother to run off and leave her when I meet all her needs at this time. I don't know why some people (meaning the people at the court house) don't understand this. I'm a full time mom and don't have time to run off to some idiot's trial. If I had nothing else to do, fine I wouldn't really care, but not when I'm busy being a mom who's children depend on me to be here. Enough on that rant - I'm just sick of being called up for jury duty. I'm thankful to be spending the day with my little monkeys who are together playing on the floor in laundry. =)

My Interview

Pretty much all the blogs I read have been doing this, so I thought I would chime in. Thanks to Sharon for the questions.

1. What song did you and your husband dance to at your wedding reception? Where was your reception? "It's Your Love" by Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill. I still love this song but we'd probably have a different one now, Kurt isn't much of a country music lover. =) Our wedding reception was at The Galleria.. absolutely gorgeous!

2. What did you love most about being homeschooled? If deciding today, would you homeschool Landen and Amelia? That we had so much free time.. it didn't take all day to get your work done, you could take days off when needed. As of right now we aren't planning on home schooling Landen and Amelia because we have good Catholic schools here. However if we didn't, then home schooling would definitely be the option to go.

3. What is one of your talents? (other than blogging;) Do you play any instruments? Sing? Dance? Curl your tongue? I can play the piano.. I took lessons for 7 years. I don't have a piano now though so my talent isn't being used. =) I can't sing at all.. even though I attempt, I think I can dance.. lol! I can curl my tongue, and right now I can't think of anything else.

4. If you had to give up one modern convenience for a week, what would you give up? Toilets? Phone? Computer? Electricity? Car? I could easily give up my car or phone. Electricity would not be good, toilets (never), computer I could but I wouldn't want too. Umm.. I'd give up the phone.

5. Of the dinners you most frequently eat at home, what is your favorite? Definitely spaghetti.. I love pasta, I could eat it every day I think.

More shoes to be excited about

I ran into Fashion Bug yesterday just to see what they had.. it's not a regular place I shop, but we were killing time. I got these in brown for $4! How can you beat that, a pair of $50 boots for $4?

Then right next door was Payless and I got a pair of shoes that look almost exactly like these for $7.

I know I've been a little shoe crazy lately, but I love a deal and these shoes are great! Now I just need to find a pair of casual flats that look great because my rocket dogs are seriously looking ill from wear.

Can't Touch This

Landen has a new favorite pair of pants - nick named hammer from his lovely father - yes they balloon out. He refused to take them off last night and this morning informed me he wasn't taking his hammers off. He's now learned the crab walk - courtesy of his mom, and moves his hands like a disc jockey (apparently I was doing that when I was dancing) and says "can't touch this" in the correct tune and all.

What I was doing 10 years ago: Lets see... I was the big ol' 15! What comes to mind is... slaving away in my parents greenhouse and probably preparing myself a couple months in advance to starting drivers education... my first school experience. I think I like 25 a lot better than 15!

Snacks I enjoy: Since lent is over - anything considered a sweet! I really like that Cajun trail mix, but I have to limit myself or I'll eat the entire bag.

Things I would do if I were a billionaire: Pay off our house and build a new one! Give money to our entire family, for things they need and things they need to pay off. Give money to well deserving charities and things like that. Save money for the future, invest it.

Three of my bad habits: 1. Not speaking up when I need to (I don't know if that's a bad habit, but I need to change it) 2. Not taking time for prayer and things that I should. 3. Making excuses why I didn't get the chance to get something done and complaining.

Five places I have lived: I've only lived in four places - two with my parents, two with my hubby!

I have been pondering over this question for some time now and wondering what some of you fellow bloggers do.

Do you have your blog address as a signature in your e-mail when you send to family and friends?

I'm really curious as to what many of you do and why. I'd appreciate if you took a couple of minutes to comment and let me know. Or if you don't have a blog even, what do you think about it? Would you like the option of knowing someone had a blog just from getting an e-mail? I would! I have no problem with people reading my blog, this is who I am, take it or leave it. A lot of my family do not have my blog address though, but I do think they might like to have it as well as friends. I don't know, just something I have been thinking about a lot the last couple of months.

Guitar Hero

It was to fun for us to pass up... Kurt got home from work and we went and purchased Guitar Hero III! Oh my gosh it's so much fun and completely addicting. Anyone want to come over and have a challenge? Before you know it I'm going to be spinning around and head bangin' in my living room and the neighbors are going to wonder who this wild woman is. Or substitute man in there and it can be Kurt - who can already dance around a bit. I however am still in zombie mode and have to stare at the television and absolutely nobody can talk to me or I'll mess up. =) Last night Landen even got into it with his guitar! We had to break out the camera and get photo's of everyone, including Amelia on the floor with Landen's guitar. This was my favorite picture - my two rock stars!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! We had a very busy but relaxing weekend, remembering what it's really all about and celebrating with the regular traditions of Easter with candy, Church, Easter egg hunts, candy, Easter baskets with goodies, candy, and visiting with a lot of family. It really was a wonderful time and I fulfilled my FAMILIA resolution of just letting go and enjoying it all, instead of getting upset and annoyed at whatever came along that I didn't like. It really was joyous!

Friday I made it to our youth ministry's live Stations of the Cross. It was moving and I'm so glad that I went. I was contemplating it all day and finally I just ran upstairs got dressed and went. I hadn't been to the stations of the cross in years - I'm guessing close to ten. Sad! I have to admit that I got teared up several times - when you just read about it, and look at the pictures it's just not the same as actually watching people rein act what Jesus went through for us. Unfortunately Kurt and Landen didn't attend with me, but it was much more child friendly than I had imagined and I hope to make it a family outing next year.

As promised to some people I didn't get a family picture at Easter. I honestly completely forgot about a family photo - I got several others, but not one of us all together. =( I will post some, or make a montage of it all when I get a chance.

As for another highlight... I totally rock.... At Guitar Hero... hey, it said I did! My brothers got one for their PlayStation2 and we played quite a bit. Kurt and I decided it might be something we need to bring into this house. I'll let you know if we're rockin' out in the living room... hmmm.. tonight?

La Leche League

Today I was asked if I wanted to become a La Leche League leader. Wow! I was actually quite honored and touched that someone thought I actually knew enough to become a leader. I do however feel really comfortable with breastfeeding, mostly because I grew up with it. It's kind of like second nature in our family. It's natural and breastfeeding and things along those lines perk my interest. I'd like to help people and be encouraging with that sort of thing.

I told our leader though that I'd consider it, but wanted to give it some serious thought before I made a commitment. I would really like to get that Catholic Nursing Mothers League going sometime too. I am waiting to hear more about that from the founder at this time though. Our leader also said the LLL can take as long or as little time as you want to become a leader, but at least a year. So, I could take it slow and not get too overwhelmed with anything. I'm still not exactly sure what it all involves - but I'm supposed to be getting more information from her soon.

I also had it run across my mind that if they pass a law that requires me to take so many classes/in services/work so many hours a year to keep my RN license, that the things I'd be required to attend for La Leche League could possible cover that. Once again I have no idea, but that would be another plus. Fulfilling my license obligations and enjoying it, instead of having to take things that I really wouldn't want too.

This would also be great because I could have my children with me - it's very child friendly and children are always welcome. I can't do things that require me to leave the kids, especially during the day and when they're young they need to be with their mom. =)

So, I'm excited about this opportunity and will see what comes of this!

Happy St. Patricks Day

I honestly forgot that it was today until I saw some other blogs that had posted about it. I guess Amelia and I will get a good pinch because neither of us are wearing green today.

Saturday we went to our St. Patricks Day parade here! It's only about 15 minutes long, but long enough because it was coollldd! I made a little montage of some photo's. Enjoy!

Kurts work has a little Easter party for the kids. They get to see the Easter Bunny, get eggs, candy, cookies, and color.. a little bit of fun. Amelia and Landen both sat on the Easter Bunny's lap. Landen was a little scared at first, but was fine after a second. Amelia just kept staring like - "what is this strange creature". She didn't cry though and we got a couple of cute pictures. I'm off to get all this laundry finished. Ack!

Cowboy milk

I was just informed while reading a book about animals that -

Daddy drinks cow milk, Mommy drinks cow milk, Amelia drinks nursie milk and Landen drinks cowboy milk.

No arguing there - he's got it all figured out!

In a Minute

I found out today that I say the phrase - "In a minute" - a lot. If you want to know your bad habits, qualities or what you say entirely too much, just look to your children.

Me: "Landen, time to get out of the shower."

Landen: "In a minute."

Me: "It's time to go home."

Landen: "In a minute."

Me: "Let's go and rest now."

Landen: "In a minute, check my e-mail."

What have a created? A monster! LoL. He just started this today and it's never said in a mean tone, just very matter of fact. Oh, and do I check my e-mail too much, or at least say - in a minute I need to check my e-mail. Oh my.

Oh Snap!

I got a picture of Landen yesterday in his Trendy Tadpole t-shirt. He looks super cute in black. Black just isn't a color I normally pick up, for myself or for the kids, but he looks super cute in it. Also, the quality of their shirts is great. I actually won this shirt from writing a post about her company.

So I was kind of concerned after I picked this out that people would think I had some nasty saying on my kids shirt. I thought it was cute, but a total after thought was people are going to see - Oh Snap and think it means - oh crap. However, Kurt told me I was crazy and after looking it up in the Urban Dictionary, (that I didn't know existed until my husband informed me) I'm pleasantly surprised to find out it means: "a playful indication of surprise, misfortune, or insult." I won't be giving this away to the second hand store now, but letting him wear it. =)

As you can tell from the picture, he wasn't very enthusiastic about getting his picture taken. Just kind sat down against the wall. Oh well - at least you can see the shirt.

It's a good day!

What am I doing right now? Typing with Amelia on my back in the Mei Tai and my boobies are not being accentuated - because of the much helpful advice so many of you gave me. I'll be stylin' in public with Amelia on my back now. Hee hee!

Also, thank you all for raising my self esteem (did it need raising, hmm) and telling me I looked good in my new hat!!! Either you all lie really well, I have a lot more people read my blog than I know of, and they think it looks horrible and didn't comment, or I really am a Rockin' Hot Momma. LOL!!!

I'm going to go finish dinner, Kurt is grilling because it's in the 40's today!!!!! Can you even believe I'm getting excited about the 40's??? And, Landen has been really quiet and he's using Markers that aren't washable. SCARY!!!

New Diapers and Swim Suit

I finally made it over to the cloth diaper lady today. It's taken me entirely too long to get over there, but now that I made it I'm so glad I did. She was wonderful to talk to and I ended up changing my mind on which diapers I wanted.

I ended up getting some of the Mommys Touch Easy Clean One Size Diapers that snap close. I was very intimidated about the one sized diapers before, but once I started looking at them more closely they didn't seem as bulky as I had imagined. They're a little more complicated and yes, a little bit bulkier, but I decided to give them a try.

We are hoping to have more children someday and for basically the same price as the new Fuzzi Buns, it seemed crazy to be buying so many sizes when I could buy just one and have it work for the entire diapering time. Also, the new style Fuzzi Buns apparently are sized just a little bit different because Amelia would still be wearing the smalls. The mediums were still a bit big in the legs and she would leak right out the side, and I really didn't want to buy a bunch of smalls and turn around in a month and buy mediums. So I had to make a decision!

I only bought three of these Mommy's Touch and I'm going to see how well they work. I like these Baby-Kanga's that she was telling me about too, so when they come in stock we're going to try one of those as well. Also on my entire purchase I had a coupon to use and I got a free wet cloth diaper bag. Woo hoo! =)

Some of you might be wondering what ever happened to the Hugga Buns. Well, I ended up getting them and they were leaking through the stitching. I have no idea what the problem was and Danielle (the owner) had never experienced this or heard of it happening with any others she sold. I ended up sending them all back and got a refund. I may be willing to try her new and improved diaper at a later date, but I didn't want to deal with anymore defective diapers, so that's why I'm no long using the Hugga Buns. It's too bad too because they fitted great and the price was fantastic, but you can't have leaking diapers. So, that's the deal with the Hugga Buns.

I also ended up getting Amelia a new swim suit. It's a fitted swim suit bottom (no more little swimmers) and a tankini top. I took these couple of pictures of her in it today when we tried it on. It fits great, I don't have to worry about those little swimmers because this holds everything in (and yes it holds pee - we had an experience during the pictures. Ha ha), plus it's well covered. I really don't like the swim suits that are so revealing for little girls - even for adults for that matter, but I don't want my little girl in something real revealing so this helps with that. Plus it covers a lot of skin so less sun exposure to the skin is good as well! I think it's too cute and looking forward to using it next week when we go swimming. =) *Click on the pictures to see larger*

It's Been Busy Around Here

... as you can notice from a lack of posting.

Friday was FAMILIA - I don't really know what my problem is but I'm really struggling with this material. I read it and seem to understand it, but can't wrap my thoughts around it enough to put anything into words. I hope this next weeks material is better for me. I have learned a lot about the Ten Commandments though. That's our Catechism material... you don't realize how little you know until you really start studying it. =)

Afterwards was Children's Adoration. We haven't made it for the last couple of months for reasons out of my control - stinking' winter weather. I was glad to go - not just for the kids, but for myself as well. Landen was a little rowdy, but it wasn't a big deal and Amelia actually sat there and chewed on a cloth book while I attempted to have Landen sing and pray. The highlight (for Landen) was having Father Keen (in landen's words) stop by to see the children. I've never seen Landen just stop and listen to anyone, ever. After Father left Landen proudly announces to all the children "Father Keen says God love all of us". It was so sweet. I'm so thankful to have Children's Adoration for our children.

Saturday we went shopping! I was very disappointed because I didn't find anything I liked for Landen or Amelia to wear for Easter. It's more than likely going to be so cold with it being early that we will just wear regular nice Sunday clothes. I think I get in my mind a certain outfit I want for them and if I can't find it (for a reasonable price) then I'm not happy. Oh well, they'll be cute anyway. I found some bargains for myself - I love finding deals. I got a new hat - Kurt thinks I look a little goofy but I'll get a picture of me wearing it sometime. Landen got a Cars comforter for his little bed. It was a great trip. =)

I wanted to post this picture of Amelia and Kurt. They're too cute. Happy to say the Cubs are in spring training and we've been watching. Yay!

Baby wearing 101

... I think it would be a good class for me to take.

I got Amelia on my back with the Mei Tei, it was a little work, but well worth it. She fell asleep fairly quick and I was able to get a lot done. However - for you experienced baby wearers... how do you adjust the straps while wearing the baby on your back? It crosses across my chest and really accentuates the boobies. Believe me, not a pretty sight - no pictures because of that reason. I can't wear it out in public when I have this tight material wrapped all around them. Not good, not good at all. Any suggestions? Until I figure something else out, she will only be worn on my front in public.

The pictures are my sweet Landen learning to be a baby wearer. He brought Amelia's glow worm and the Mei Tei to me and wanted to wear "his baby". He did for a long time too! I love how kids copy things that are so sweet.

Not A Baby Anymore

I suppose I can say Landen is definitely not a baby anymore - even though I like to refer to him as my baby boy. I do however quickly get corrected with - "me not baby, me Landen Joseph (last name)". Just like his Uncle Eli at that age. =)

He's really growing up, it's been almost a year since he last nursed. He still likes to help nurse Amelia though. Ha ha!

He's potty trained completely now. He hasn't wet the bed in a very, very long time and I don't even have to tell him to go.. he just goes. That right there is a huge milestone. Here I didn't even think he was close to being ready to be potty trained and he did great the first time we really tried.

For the most recent thing - he's now sleeping in his big boy bed.. in the other room. *sniff, sniff* How did this happen? Honestly a few weeks ago I would have never said he'd be sleeping in his own bed, but it's happened.

I love co-sleeping, but having two grown adults, a toddler and a baby in a queen sized bed just wasn't working anymore. I decided that after 2.5 years (and a little encouragement that he wouldn't die in the other room from my mom, who has a lot more experience then me) I could put the baby bed away on the floor of our room and use the big twin sized bed in the other room. I know what you might be thinking - I must have just wanted him out of my room if we had a little bed on the ground for him. Well, he wouldn't fall asleep in there and whenever he woke up (which was a lot anymore) he'd get in bed with us and wouldn't want to get out. So, I thought we'd at least try the big bed, see what happened.

We decided at the beginning we weren't going to be super strict with the idea, if he really was scared or something, we were going to try something else. We were also going to let him come in our bed in the night if he needed too. I have absolutely no problem with that - I'm all about co-sleeping and believe children need to be with their parents. I won't go into all my beliefs on co-sleeping right now though. So I put Landen's little bed away, told him it was gone and he seemed fine with that. I asked him if he was going to sleep in his big bed - "sure". Ha ha.. that's what I thought, no way would it really happen.

The first night he went to bed early, in his bed - BUT - it was the start of the dreaded flu and the next three days we were down stairs sleeping. A minor set back.. oh well.. try again when we're all better.

Now, he lays down in bed with one of us, we sometimes read stories (depending on the night), prayers, hugs, kisses, and he goes to sleep. We have a nightlight and if he needs us in the night he just calls one of us - "mommy, daddy." One of us goes in, hugs, kisses and he goes back to bed. He hasn't even asked to come into our bed. He's doing GREAT! I'm not expecting him to not ever come back in our bed, I'm actually expecting it at sometime - which is totally fine. I just can't believe he's actually in there sleeping on his own. He's well rested in the morning and seems to be in a better mood. Kurt and I are getting better sleep too, which makes everyone happier.

I always get caught up in the moments of feeling like - it will be like this forever - but I really try not to rush him. He won't stay a baby forever, he won't have to be in our bed forever, use a diaper forever, or nurse forever. I won't have to keep him with me forever.. these times he needs me - he only needs me like this for such a short amount of time. Why rush him to grow up? He's only 2.5 and he's already past all those little steps that make him more of a big boy. Those things I cherished (maybe not cherishing all those dirty diapers.. ha ha) and helped form the wonderful bond we have now.

Before I know it, he's going to be race carin' it and I'm going to be really freaking out!

I need to constantly remind myself, not to rush... time goes by fast enough without me rushing to make my kids older than they're ready to be.. do things they aren't ready to do. All in do time.

Wordless Wednesday: Don't stand on your chair

*Update. I should have clarified when I posted this... It's spaghetti sauce that's all over my little guy. He was jumping up and down on his chair, hit his plate (which is plastic) with his hand and the plate went flying, throwing spaghetti sauce everywhere. He's not bloody or anything.*

Mei Tei

I finally got my Mei Tei and I love it! It's so much quicker to get on than the Moby wrap - I do still like my Moby wrap a lot though, especially for little babies. Amelia however is definitely ready for something else, now that she has (has had for sometime) good control over her head and body. =)

I wore Amelia shopping today - facing out and facing in. She enjoyed both, and loved being out of that darn seat. It was really quick to get on too - first store I actually had to put the entire thing on once we got in and the second store I had it already on and just had to put her in and tie.

I think the padded straps would be really nice, so if I were to get another one I would probably get the padded straps. Especially for times when she's going to be in it a lot longer.

Mine is also reversible - which I really like. Mostly so if Kurt wanted to wear it, he wouldn't have to have the quilted pattern showing, if he didn't want too. It's completely khaki colored on the inside.

I'm also glad I didn't get the longer straps, I was debating whether not I should so I could wrap it around front and then tie in the back. I think they would just get in the way though, and drag on the floor when putting it on somewhere else - and that's gross if you think about it. They're plenty long enough to wrap around my back and tie in the front with extra hanging.

Also, I mastered the whole nursing while wearing baby in the carrier. Something I had watched and read a lot about, but haven't been able to do it. I had a lower cut shirt (not that low, but not like a winter turtle neck) on today and a different type bra (so that might have helped). Anyway, nursing while carrying was great and helpful. Before, I always had to get her out to nurse and then she'd fall asleep, I'd lay her down and she'd wake up, vicious cycle. This way I can just put her in, do our thing, nurse her, let her fall asleep and continue going. Yay!

On the mend

We're doing a lot better here. I figured since I had to complain on my blog about how horrible it was being sick and tired and all that jazz, I should at least say we're on the mend.

I think Kurt had a horrible migraine Friday because after he slept 14 hours, was as good as new.

Amelia was a bit more energetic Saturday and Landen was definitely better. Today they're normal (minus a little runny nose) and acting like they always do. We even made it to church!

Saturday started the runny nose for me though, and the lack of sleep started to really settle in. Then today - I seem to have what I would call a sinus cold. I haven't felt like this, congestion in my head for... Forever really. However, it's not that bad and I won't complain anymore about it. I'll just have a red nose and keep a box of Puffs (with lotion) handy at all times. =)

I appreciate all the prayers. I had a lot of comments as well as e-mails on getting better. If we ever had some serious illness I know I have a lot of friends and blogger friends out there to pray for us. Thanks everyone.
