The Mission.

This past week our church had the Mission for hope from Father David Knight at our church. I was unable to attend on Monday, but was able to make it both Tuesday and Wednesday evening and it was absolutely great.

Firstly, I have to say that we have had the mission every year since we became members at St. Patricks and I've never gone or wanted to go. This year however what Fr. Knight said really spoke to me so I wanted to share it. He asked why we weren't going - a basketball game, dinner, television show that was on - if those were the reasons then aren't we putting them before God (Idolatry). It's our job as Catholics to keep up with our faith and keep learning, it doesn't quit after Confirmation, First Communion, etc. so he really encouraged people to come. All I could think about was - why am I not going? I have no good reason, except to be lazy and I didn't want to change my clothes from working on the dining room all day. So, I went and I'm so glad I did!

I'm not going to go into the entire mission but just to say a few things that I'm going to work on. He had 5 things that he guaranteed would make your life better and help you on the way. I wasn't there for all, but a few I'm definitely going to work on. Saying the W.I.T prayer throughout the day. Saying "Lord work With Me. In Me. Through Me." I posted this on our dry eraser board and it really has been working - I love it! It's simple yet it keeps Christ with you and helping you throughout the day.

The other was placing the bible on your pillow, not the nightstand next to your bed but the pillow. Making your resolution being that every night you will read one sentence, that's it. We need to read the bible and this will keep us accountable. By saying you will read a sentence or a paragraph it's easy to waver away from this, but one sentence is easy enough. I haven't started this, but I'm going too!!

Another was praise, praise, praise. I've been meaning to actually post about this for a few weeks now. My family is really big on praising and I absolutely love it. My siblings and parents are amazing at the compliments and everyone is always doing such good things and they say this to my children, which I think is wonderful . Kurt and I really try to do this hard with our children as well (remember for every negative thing said - they need ten positives to counter it), but it goes beyond that. You are all my brothers and sisters in Christ and I need to treat you like one, so I'm going to try to praise you too, even people that - well you know. The check out lady, my friends when they are looking amazing or doing a great job. He said the more you praise and see the good in others, the more that you are going to see the good around you and who doesn't love to be praised? I know I do! Kurt and I are working on this with each other. I don't know about you, but there is nothing like your husband telling you that you are doing an amazing job even if it's just doing the dishes. =)

So the Mission was awesome and definitely made an impact on my life. I hope those three little tips I shared effect you like they did me. Have a blessed weekend.

did you go by yourself or did you take the kids? I thought about going one of the days (I actually thought it was just offered 3 different days I didn't realize it was something different each day) but you know how my kids are in church.
I like the praise idea!! I *try* to do that but I know I still need to be doing it alot more than I am.

I love it! The W.I.T prayer and the Bible idea are awesome. I will put off reading the Bible because I don't have 'time' to read a lot... but I don't necessarily have to read a ton just some....and hopefully that will lead into more! Thanks for sharing!-Tara

I love the WIT prayer idea - I think I need to post that around my house somewhere for a regular reminder.
And the praise? SO great! I am always trying to be conscious of it with my kids and tell them how wonderful they are. And it recently occurred to me that, duh, my husband could use some nice words, as well. It makes life so much happier when we're all feeling loved and appreciated. I really like the idea of taking that further and being a little extra nice and praiseful of others, too.
It's so great that you posted about this :)

How cool, I'm going to have to write the WIT prayer down. I'm with you on Praise. I bought the love dare book and I love it! Pun not intended. LOL

Praise is so important. And when you look at your child's ace after praising them they are just glowing.

Ohhh I love that prayer... might just write it on the fridge :-)

I was doing nursery this week, but the word on Sunday was somewhat similiar to yours actually! Gotta love when that happens... its like they all talk over the phone and gather ideas!!!
