While checking out Sharon's Blog Page today I came up on a link she had to All Natural Mommies page. She has a great post on vaccinating - delaying, exemptions and more. Check this blog out of hers Vaccinating.
The past few weeks I've been reading a lot more on the vaccination issue. My sister was asking me a lot of questions about it and I started second guessing myself. I knew why we decided against vaccinating the babes when they're so young, but what about now, Landen is two years old. I've been finding a lot of great sites, and reading some great articles on the issue. Lets just say, right now I'm still against quite a few he would be getting. Then yesterday I had an interesting run in with the help at the Doctor's Office. They weren't to happy we've decided to not vaccinate. Grr! Anyway some other interesting reads you can find at Jen's Blog and they are also worth reading.

Boy Oh Boy, is this the hot topic this week or what? Andy and I always said we'd wait til Landon was two to vaccinate, but now he's been two for 3 months and I am still really scared--he still seems so little to me--But it is a really tough decision and one that won't get easier (sigh) :o(
Hi there,
Thanks for your comments on my blog lately. :)
This is hard to answer w/o making it several pages long, but I'll do my best.
When I was pg w/ Aidan, my oldest, my sil gave me some basic info on vaccines. She was more making me aware of some issues (she works w/ an autisitic child), not necessarily turning me for or against. From there I began my own research. I read pros and cons, prayed about it, spoke w/ many different parents, etc. Nothing about me felt at peace about starting shots, so I told my dr. we were delaying. At that time I beleived we'd start them once Aidan was a toddler.
I never stopped researching and making attempts to stay up on the latest info I can get my hands on. Now, more than before, I am most confident in my decision. Aidan turned 3 in April, and he has never had a shot, nor are we planning to start vaxing him. I actually even considered homeschooling if sending him to school meant giving him shots. (that can sound extreme, I know)
My old ped. in MI was fine w/ this and supportive. He never made a stink about it or made me fill out any refusal forms. We moved a year ago, and my Ohio ped is not as supoprtive, but I was up front w/ him and he did ask me to sign the refusal form. He pushed the shots quite a bit, yet he couldn't answer half my questions regarding ingredients and effects.
MAYBE we will change our mind one day, but for now we feel at peace about not vaxing our boys right now. We can go in at any time to do so, but we can't UNDO what's done as easily. So maybe one day, but for now, my instincts tell me NO. And I am a beleiver that instincts are a huge gift to parents from God. I trust nothing more, so long as prayer is involved, too.
I want to add that parents who choose to vax-I don't think they're bad or wrong or anything. I think each child requires specific thought. What works for one child may not be best for another, as I know you know.
I only hate when parents blindly vaccinate, or vaccinate simply because it's what the dr. tells you to do. Doctors tell people to do a lot of things, but that doesn't make it right or good! (like the pill, for example)
We refused shots mainly because I do beleive the ingredients are harmful. I believe strongly there IS a link b/n the vaxes and learning disabilitis, immune disorders, and so on. I DO beleive they contribute to stomach issues and cancers. Maybe not all of them, but the ingredients are harmful. I also think it's immoral for the vaxes using parts of aborted fetal tissue. (Children of God for Life is a great resource, too). I know regarding this issue, the Church has said we SHOULD vax despite the misuse of huan tissue, but regardless of it being NOT a sin, I am not comfortable w/ that.
Most people I know in real life don't support my decision, and believe we're kind of whacky for not vaxing our boys. I have struggled w/ that, but now it's not as bad. I am the only person (along w/ dh) that is respinsible for my boys and their health. I am the only one who needs to make this decision. It's come between friendships and family members, but one day it won't be as important of an issue, and then maybe I can find friendship with those people again. But for now, I won't risk anything in regards to my children for the sake of others thinking I'm right or wrong.
I am sorry this is so long! It's such a passionate topic for me. I hope you don't mind! Please feel free to ask anything and I'l ldo my best to share what I can.
Good luck! Don't let any dr or school or place tell you that you HAVE to vax, because that's a flat out lie. EVERY state offers at least 1 of 3 exemptions.
Such a sticky topic! We don't vaccinate. Well, I take that back. Amberlynn was, MaKayla had some, then I started reading (Have you read cogforlife.org? There are a couple vacs out that have aborted tissue in them. They have the Vaticans statment on it), Brienna had her hep in the hospital without my knowledge and Karalynn hasn't been touched. I FINALLY found a Dr after Brie was 6 months old that is okay with us not doing vaccinations - but it took a lot of searching for him. He is awesome, but his staff stinks. lol
I was beyond happy to hear at our first appointment with him, that he was against the MMR? I think it was. The other ones he had no idea about. Like the aborted fetal tissue. Why don't Drs know this? It's scary and sad.
Brienna is by FAR our healthiest baby and child. Kara is pretty healthy as well.
My advice is leave it to God. Kelly was totally against the girls not having their shots, but once he started reading God really changed his heart. :0)
