Another day with sickies in the house. Poor Amelia is getting a little something now, and Landen sounds like some sort of dinosaur while he's sleeping. Hopefully we can kill off this bug before the weekend. I hate to start another week with little sleep and just hanging around the house due to feeling poopy.
So-o, I got the - "you better take your kids to the doctor" from a friend this week. I'm going to do a little rant here about all that because I can! I'm not taking them to the doctor because all we have is a little cold. I don't think you need to pump your children, or yourself for that matter full of antibiotics every time a little minor thing hits you. You know what is going to happen, next time you get a little cold, it takes twice as long to fight it off because you don't have those built up immunities. Your body is used to the antibiotic to cure it. Secondly, you still have to take the antibiotic (and it's only going to work if it's caused from bacteria) for such and such amount of days, when the cold would probably have already ran it's course by then anyway. Now, don't get me wrong - I definitely think there is a time to get an antibiotic or take medications (I use Tylenol and Ibuprofen if need be). I don't want to be known for one of those foo foo crazy ladies who don't believe in medications. I just don't think you need to run for every little thing, every second. Most people's bodies were designed to take care of itself with certain illnesses.
That's my story on that! =) It sure does seem like a lot of people are sick with colds right now though. I hate it- you just want to get out there, get going with these nice fall days and you can't.
Poor Landen had to miss story time today. I had to do tick tock with him a few times because I felt sorry for the little guy. Instead we watched Veggie Tale DVD's. He hasn't really liked them much before but he acted like he enjoyed them somewhat today. I hope everyone starts feeling better soon. Have a good Wednesday!

Andrea!
I totally agree with you on not going to the doctor for every little thing! Medication is overrated! And yes, there is a time for medications, but I think you'll know when that time is, if you pay attention and listen to your body. I've always found the best medication is chicken soup, and a mother's love (and if Mom isn't around...a glass of scotch is the next best thing, lol)!
(and yes, you are welcome to add my blog to your list)
You already know I say the EXACT same thing about this subject!
Hope the kiddos feel better soon!
You'd probably take him to the doc for a cold and bring home the flu from some other contageous sick kid! That's been our experience, anyways! We have taken Landon to the doctor a few times just to pay to have them tell us what we already know: fluids, rest, pain meds if need ne....Did you read Sharon's blog about cold meds? Doctors have always recommended those to us--a whole lot of good that did anyone--ha ha ha!
I have a FABULOUS recipe for homemade chicken soup--If you're interested in the challenge (it really IS tough to make sometimes)--I'll post it on my blog--It works WONDERS at curing colds FAST (I wrote a blog on it awhile back...). Let me know :o)
AMEN, sista!
I go by my instincts, and if they push me to the dr, then I take them. I do what I can to NOT go, though. I agree-they'll probably come home w/ worse germs than before they stepped foot in that dr office.
Besides, many studies show that kids who are exposed to mild amounts of germs actually develop STRONGER immune systems than those who are forever sheltered from them.
So it may stink now, but it may actually be doing some good long-term. kwim?
