They told us last night that she had pneumonia - so we had the chest xray which was awful, blood work, two injections of antibiotics, and Tylenol to bring down the 103.? temperature she had. We had the run around about staying the night, but the Dr. said since I knew what I was talking about (I guess) from being a nurse we could just take her home and await a call for a follow up appointment for today. The night didn't seem to get any better - she was more lethargic, her temperature was staying up regardless of the Tylenol or Ib profen and she was restless. We decided to wait the night out though and got into the Dr. around 10:30am. Of course when I got there her temperature was down and she was seeming a lot more energetic. Good for her, but bad for them to see how she's acting, especially if in two hours she's just laying there again. He said she doesn't have pneumonia (duh - I listened to her last night and didn't hear anything either, and no s/s of pneumonia - oh well), her white count is up (more blood work - results tomorrow) and she's lightly anemic, but not bad enough to do anything about. Oh and she has lost weight - I kept saying she was looking skinnier and sure enough she's lost about four pounds. Poor thing! So now we just wait, give the Tylenol and ib profen and wait this out. I'm glad to have taken her though and got it figured out.
Of course I got the talk about not having her immunized, but he was very nice. Of course pushed the subject and wanted to get her started as soon as possible, but respected my our decision on delaying at this time. I also got the talk about Amelia not eating much solids yet. That she really should have been eating a long time ago, and they're okay with breastfeeding until a year, but
recommend weaning after that. He even said something about mom's nursing until three, in a not very good idea tone. I just said, those babies are healthy ones! I was very proud of myself about staying calm and collective, matter of fact and nice during those somewhat heated topics. I know what we're doing is perfectly fine and healthy and do realize that as a Dr. he probably has to say those things.

So, that's the update. Keep our little sweet heart in your prayers. These's pictures are with her two band aids (from the injections) and arm wrapped up from the blood work. She was actually a little perky in these!

I just sent you an e-mail and now I get what you were saying about the pneumonia--Duh, doctors--It stinks when you know more than the people you pay hundreds of dollars to, huh? :oP After reading this post, I am noticing so many similarities between A's virus and what Landon was experiencing when he was sick. nHe had the persistent fever--103+ degree fever, listless and even lost four pounds, too, scaring the crap out of me. He was a RAIL--shoulder blades popping out, ribs showing, UGH! It made me so sad.
Oh, and one last thing--You probably already know that, but I fed Landon almost no solids at all until after he was one. He was off the charts in height and weight and was NEVER sick!! I am a huge advocate of extended bfing! Everyone always told me a child couldn't survive on milk alone and I was like, "Look at my hoss of a baby and say that again"---People used to say, "What in the world are you feeding that child? You need to quit letting him snack all the time"--to which i would answer with "It's all breastmilk"...end of discussion. Nothing like the word "breastmilk" to nip any conversation in the bud! :o)
Continued prayers for Amelia!!!! Poor thing! You just keep up that breastfeeding..you KNOW any illness would've been even worse without it!! Hang in there and let me know if you need anything. I'll also be praying for you I know how hard it is on Mommy when baby is sick.
Hope little Amelia is feeling better soon. Johanna has been through a bunch of stuff lately too - Roseola and now croup. Prayers for your family and for quick recovery for Amelia!
prayers for Amelia and your family! oh and good for you for standing up for your decisions! you are probably right though, about him being a doctory and having to tell you that stuff, makes sense.
oops, i meant "doctor" not "doctory" hehe, its early!
Wondering how Amelia is feeling today...
Good for you for standing up for what you believe in. Man, I said a lot of "fors" in that sentence.
Keeping you in our prayers....

I'm proud of you, too! Good for you. I always find that to be a challenge, as well.
I'm glad Amelia is feeling better. How scary! Prayers continue.
Thanks for your prayers, Andrea! I read this when you posted and Amelia and your family have been in our prayers, too.
Turns out Daniel has a parasite!? There isn't medicine for it and we are at the point of feeding him pedialyte from a dropper because he won't drink anything. I'm praying for healing NOW. OR yesterday, would be better :)
Hope Amelia is doing better!
